How to turn a Twitch clip into a TikTok, free
Your viewers already clip your best moments. Here is how to make those clips vertical, captioned and ready for TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Reels.
Every time a viewer presses the clip button on Twitch, they save a moment they thought was worth sharing. That makes your channel's clips page one of the best sources of short-form content you have: the moments are already picked, by the people who watch you. What a clip needs before it travels on TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Reels is the right shape: vertical, captioned and trimmed around the moment.
This guide covers the three ways to get there: Twitch's own portrait clips, editing by hand, and the free one-link way.
Where to find your best Twitch clips
- Your channel's Clips page on Twitch, sorted by views, for the last 7 or 30 days. The most viewed clips are the ones your community already liked.
- Twitch's own automatic clips, which Twitch makes from busy moments of your stream.
- Clips your moderators and friends make during the stream and post in your Discord.
To copy a clip's link, open the clip and use Share, then Copy link. It looks like clips.twitch.tv/SomeClipName or twitch.tv/yourname/clip/SomeClipName.
Twitch's own portrait clips
Twitch makes a portrait (9:16) version of each clip next to the landscape one, with a suggested crop that keeps your cam and gameplay in frame, in a Stacked or a Full layout. Edit the portrait layout of one clip in your Clips Manager (Creator Dashboard, then Content, then Clips) and Twitch uses that layout for later clips of your channel. Clips made with "Twitch, Clip That" and Auto Clips get captions, and viewers can add captions when you turn them on in your Clips Settings. From the Clips Manager you can download either version, or post a clip of your channel straight to TikTok, YouTube, Instagram or Snapchat. Twitch clips are up to 60 seconds long.
That works well for a standard layout with a face cam over gameplay. The crop is set once for the whole clip, though, and when Twitch cannot find a cam or gameplay, as on many IRL streams, it starts from a centered crop. Download and direct posting are for the channel owner, and for viewers only on clips they made or where the streamer allows it.
Making a clip vertical by hand
- Download the clip. In your Clips Manager, open the clip's Share menu and choose Download.
- Open it in an editor such as CapCut or Premiere and set the canvas to 9:16 (1080 by 1920).
- Reframe it. Crop around your face when you react, or stack your camera above the game footage.
- Trim the start so the clip opens a second or two before the payoff is set up, and cut anything after the reaction.
- Add captions and check that the words match what you said. Keep them, and your face, out of the areas the apps cover with buttons and text: the free safe zone checker shows those areas on a frame of your own clip.
- Export and upload to TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels.
It works, but it is 10 to 20 minutes a clip, and it is the kind of job that gets skipped after a long stream.
The free way: paste the clip link
EasyClippers does the same job from the link alone, and this part is free on every account. It uses no credits.
- Create an EasyClippers account and open the Clips page.
- Paste the Twitch or Kick clip link. Use clips that are yours or that you may use.
- EasyClippers fetches the clip and sends it back vertical, with captions and framing, plus the original clip in HD to download.
- Download it, along with its captions file (SRT) if you want to edit the captions yourself, and post it.
You can paste up to 20 clip links a day, each up to 3 minutes long. If you stream on Twitch, the Clips page also lists your channel's own clips by views, each one tap from a vertical version, so you do not even need to copy links.

Whose clips you can post
Clips of your own channel are yours to post. Clips of someone else's stream are their content: post them only with their permission, or as part of a clipping campaign that the streamer runs. If you clip for other streamers, this guide on clipping campaigns covers how that usually works.
Tips that make a clip travel
- Lead with the moment. If the first two seconds are quiet, cut them.
- Keep your face in frame when you react. The reaction is often the whole clip.
- Write a title that sets up the moment without giving away the ending.
- Post the same clip to all three platforms. The same clip often does very differently on each.
- Put your Twitch link in every bio so a new viewer can find your next stream.
