How to turn a Twitch VOD into YouTube Shorts and TikToks
Missed clipping during the stream? Your past broadcast still has the moments. Here is how to get them out without rewatching hours of footage.
Most streamers do not clip while they are live. They are busy streaming. That leaves the past broadcast, the VOD, as the place where the week's best moments sit until Twitch deletes it. Turning a VOD into shorts is mostly a search problem: in four or six hours of footage there might be ten moments worth posting, and finding them by scrubbing takes longer than the stream did.
Why to do it soon after the stream
Twitch keeps past broadcasts only for a limited time, and a clip posted the day after a stream rides the conversation around it: your viewers recognise it, share it, and new viewers can still catch your next stream while it is fresh. A moment posted two weeks later has lost most of that.
If you want to keep a broadcast longer, save it as a Highlight on Twitch, or download it from your Video Producer page.
Finding the moments in a VOD
- Start with the clips your viewers made. Every clip on your channel from that stream points at a moment someone cared about. The free Twitch VOD moment finder lists them for any past broadcast, grouped into moments and ranked, each linked to the second it starts.
- Look for chat spikes. If you use a chat replay or a stream tool that logs chat, the bursts of messages and emotes mark the big moments.
- Listen for yourself. Shouting, laughing and sudden silence after a play are reliable signs.
- Note timestamps during the stream next time: a quick note or a stream deck marker saves an hour of scrubbing later.
Cutting and reframing them
- Cut each moment to 20 to 45 seconds, starting a second or two before the setup.
- Reframe it for a 9:16 screen around your face or the action, or stack your camera above the game.
- Add captions and a short hook that says why to keep watching.
- Export at 1080 by 1920 and check it on a phone before posting.
Expect 15 to 30 minutes per short by hand. That is why most VODs never become shorts at all.
Doing it from the VOD link
EasyClippers takes a past broadcast by its link. Paste a Twitch or Kick VOD link (or upload an MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM or TS file of your own recording) and it does the search and the editing for you:
- It listens to the whole broadcast for reactions, laughter, loudness and voice excitement, and looks at what happens on screen.
- An AI judge picks the moments worth posting, and each becomes a captioned, framed vertical short, trimmed around the payoff, 7 per stream hour by default (up to 30 if you want more).
- You review the shorts, keep the ones you like, and post them to TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram from the same place.
Better still, give it your channel link before you go live next time: it records the stream and has the shorts ready while you are still live, so there is no VOD to work through at all. Plans start at $7.99 a month for 5 stream hours, with a 7-day free trial.
Posting the shorts
Spread a VOD's shorts over the following days rather than posting them all at once: one to three a day per platform is a steady pace. Post each one to TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels, since the same clip often does very differently on each, and keep your Twitch link in every bio.
