Safe zone checker for TikTok, Shorts and Reels
Free, no account needed. TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels lay buttons, the caption and the channel name over the edges of a vertical video. Pick a frame of your video or an image to see what they cover. It runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded.
The safe zones, on a 1080x1920 frame
Keep faces, captions, titles and logos out of these margins. The numbers are conservative: none of the apps publishes a safe zone for normal posts, so they come from the platforms' guidance for ads and from measurements of the apps.
| App | Top | Bottom | Left | Right | Safe box |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| All three | 288 px | 672 px | 65 px | 192 px | 823 x 960 px |
| TikTok | 220 px | 484 px | 60 px | 180 px | 840 x 1216 px |
| YouTube Shorts | 288 px | 672 px | 48 px | 192 px | 840 x 960 px |
| Instagram Reels | 270 px | 672 px | 65 px | 192 px | 823 x 978 px |
- TikTok: the top bar and search sit at the top, the like, comment, save and share buttons run down the right side, and the name, caption and sound sit at the bottom. A long caption takes more of the bottom.
- YouTube Shorts: the title, channel name and subscribe button sit at the bottom, the like, dislike, comment and share buttons on the right.
- Instagram Reels: the name, caption and audio sit at the bottom and the buttons on the bottom right. Meta's guidance for Reels ads is to keep the top 14% and the bottom 35% clear.
If you post one video to all three, use "All three": it is the strictest of them, about the middle 76% of the width and the band from 15% to 65% of the height.
How to use it
- Choose a video or image from your phone or computer. Nothing leaves your device.
- For a video, drag the slider to the moment you want to check, such as the first second or a caption.
- Switch between the apps to see what each one covers. Anything important in a shaded area is hidden under buttons or text for some viewers.
- Editing in CapCut, Premiere or DaVinci Resolve? Download the overlay and lay it on top of your timeline while you edit, then hide it before you export.
Questions
- What is the TikTok safe zone?
- On a 1080x1920 video, keep about 220 px clear at the top, 484 px at the bottom, 60 px on the left and 180 px on the right. The bottom grows when a post has a long caption.
- What is the YouTube Shorts safe zone?
- About 288 px at the top, 672 px at the bottom, 48 px on the left and 192 px on the right of a 1080x1920 video, which leaves a box of about 840 x 960 px in the middle.
- What is the Instagram Reels safe zone?
- Meta's guidance for Reels ads is to keep the top 14% (about 270 px) and the bottom 35% (about 672 px) clear, with 6% on the sides and room for the buttons on the right.
- Why do guides give different numbers?
- The apps change their layout a few times a year, phones have different shapes, and the platforms publish numbers for ads only. These numbers sit at the careful end, so a frame that fits here fits everywhere.
- Is my video uploaded?
- No. The file opens in your browser and the frame is drawn on your screen. Nothing is sent to EasyClippers or anywhere else.
- My video is horizontal. What now?
- The apps show a horizontal video small, with bars above and below. Make it vertical first: EasyClippers does that free for Twitch and Kick clip links, keeping the speaker in frame.
